Music Monday

Well, since Persona is anime now, I can introduce you to the music of the talented Shoji Meguro. His signature style of rock mixed with various genres such as hip hop, electronica and RnB has appeared in many titles of the Megami Tensei series of games. It is no surprise then that he returns to compose the OP and ED of the Persona 4 anime, which is currently airing.

I usually don’t go for poppy songs, but theres just something so catchy about his upbeat tunes, with contributions from Lotus Juice who worked on music for Soul Eater and Katanagatari, as well as Shihoko Hirata singing the oddly endearing engrish lyrics. Meguro also composes orchestral peices for the soundtracks.
On the whole I think I enjoyed the OST to Persona 3 more than Persona 4, though I attribute this to the fact that Persona 3 songs seem to stand on their own fairly well (and who could forget the BABY BABY battle theme), though both soundtracks compliment their respective games fantastically.

A friend recently recommended Stein’s Gate to me, and I daresay I’ve been immensely enjoying it so far. It’s about a group of uni students who somehow manage to turn a microwave into a remote-controlled time travelling device, with which they have fun adventures and shenanigans, whereupon they also then get chased around by a secret government research agency who are doing the similar things but are (probably) just very jelly of being outsmarted by a bunch of kids and want to do nasty, harmful things to said kids.

The OP is a bit of light, eclectic musical fun featuring the profilic Kanako Itou to a bouncy electro-pop soundtrack. In my humble opinion, it’s ultimately not that remarkable as it sounds too much like most other anime OPs I’ve listened to.

Imagine a world where the techniques of rapidly showing a sequence of images to create the illusion of motion was never made. Now imagine a world where animation became so popular that it made the static art form of manga entirely obsolete. Which world would you choose and why? Comment below!

What are you reading/watching?

Just a curious question (and also to start some discussion on this blog), what anime are you watching currently? Also, what manga do you follow?

Right now, I follow Naruto and Bleach manga, largely because the time I’ve invested in them makes me want to keep watching them. As far as anime is concerned, I’m just watching K-ON!! weekly, but I have a bunch of other series I need to catch up on. And I need to buy the rest of Gurren Lagann -_-‘

So what do you guys read/watch weekly? And what do you have planned to watch later?
