Music Monday

So recently, I’ve been enjoying the endearingly cute and fluffy production of Shinryaku! Ika Musume. It’s one of this season’s new offerings, the story of which revolves around a squid girl from the ocean, who is annoyed at humans for polluting the sea, and decides to ‘invade’ the local beach house restaurant. Predictably, she fails, and is instead press-ganged into helping the beach house out! Cutesy squidgirl-related shenanigans and hijinks ensue.

For the rest of us (who will never hold a cute squid-girl with tentacles for hair in their arms ;_; ), it’s finally the end of uni and the beginning of summer break. Prepare the fans and the rattan mats! Or you could turn on the air conditioning in complete disregard of the environment, you ratbag. But then out of nowhere, a moe~ carbon dioxide girl may suddenly emerge from the clouds passing overhead and then punch a hole in your wall… mhmmm.

More to come after the break, de geso~!

Music Monday

We’re quickly approaching the end of semester two, where we find ourselves inevitably drawn more and more into a manic frenzy of activity involving assignments, work and other things.

So here’s a song with some frenzied maniac singing away. DAMEDAMEDAMEDAMEDAME- this is otherwise known as the 7th opening theme of the long running Crayon Shin-Chan anime, the story of which revolves around a psychotic innocent five year old who likes to troll play with everyone.

MUSIC MONDAY

In celebration and commemoration of Yuko Miyamura and Tiffany Grant’s awe-inspiring appearance at Smash! last Saturday, the natural thing to do would be to feature the famous ‘A Cruel Angel’s Thesis’. However, following in the same vein of what Gainax is doing with Rebuild of Evangelion nowadays, I also thought that it would also be appropriate to present an alternative version – a retelling, if you will – of an old classic.

For the subject of today’s Music Monday, I thought I’d take a look at Hatsune Miku, a synthesised vocaloid software developed by Yamaha in 2004 designed to create inexpensive vocals for music. Whilst she was originally intended to be a mascot character for the software, once exposed to the vibrant, chaotic energies of the internet, she has since taken on a life on her own through fan-created art and music.

Since I myself have only just begun to delve into the vast amount of Hatsune Miku content available on the internet, so far I’ve been really enjoying two particular songs featuring her :

Both of these are by Ryo, the leader of the music group Supercell, whom you may already be acquainted with, as they did the Bakemonogatari ED ‘Kimi ga Shiranai Monogatari’ – which was actually their first work which didn’t feature Hatsune Miku as the vocals. At first, listening to her voice was an interesting experience and admittedly a little unnerving. However, after being more exposed to it, I’ve really come to enjoy her music – or more accurately, the hard work of the talented musicians behind her voice.
