White Day! (with bonus recipe!)

March 8, 2015, by , posted in Blog

Valentine’s Day is extremely prominent in anime and valentines day episodes pretty much follow a set progression.

  1. Attempt to make chocolate. Said attempt may be inedible.
  2. Agonize about the giving of chocolate.  This may be because said attempt was inedible.
  3. Through a series of contrivances, somehow manage to give chocolate to object of affections.
  4. Hopefully win the heart of senpai.

It’s a pretty common pattern and we’re all familiar with it. However, are you just as familiar with the counterpart of Valentine’s Day – White Day?

White Day is on March 14. It’s a time for people to return the favor if they’ve received chocolates on Valentine’s Day. This is usually done with candy though other gifts can be given! Is it a blatant corporate holiday? Why yes it is!

If you’ve happened to receive chocolates for Valentines Day, why not repay the favor? Click the read more for an easy recipe you can make yourself (and for Valentine’s Day while we’re at it).

Orientation events, rounds 2 and 3

February 25, 2015, by , posted in Events

Welcome and thank you for (re)joining anime@UTS. Hope you enjoyed our welcome picnic and events we prepared for you last weekend.

Now it is time to continue our orientation fun with 2 more events!

First up is: Nerd Cave

The Nerd Cave is one of AnimeSydney’s newest sponsors, and it’s like. A cave. For nerds. Because nerds like caves. But better. Because there are like…consoles and PCs and arcade games and board games :D which, coincidentally, are also all things nerds supposed to like :DDD so bring your 3DS or Weiβ Schwarz paraphernalia or whatever other guilty pleaasure you have AND COME TO THE NERD CAVE ON THE 27TH WITH US B)

It’ll be $5 to use the electronics on the day, so you can play to your heart’s content ლ(ಠ益ಠლ and the best thing is, The Nerd Cave is really near UTS in Surry Hills, so you’re only going to get a tiiiiiiny bit lost looking for it maybe.

And for those who have yet to become a member of Anime@UTS, this is your chance :D we really, really like your money, and it’s just a low, low $5.

When: Friday, 27th of February
Time: 2pm till 11:30pm
Where: Nerd Cave in Surry Hills
Cost: $5 members

Second is: Bar & Trivia Night

Have you ever felt like no one understands you for your extensive knowledge of all things anime? Sometimes your imba skillz are just way too much for these pleb scrubs? Time to prove yourself for all your all-knowing worth as you battle against the forces of evil(?) in this war of wits, featuring PIZZA AND DRINKS!

Yeayuh, you heard right. $5/$10 buys you entry to the event as well as free pizza and access to some of that bar tab. If you’re a non-drinker, that’s cool too – just use that ticket to hit up whatever non-alcoholic beverage tickles your fancy (=w=)b

Now we come to the highlight of the event – PRIZES. Thanks to the ongoing support of our amazing sponsors, you can be the lucky winner of some seriously cool stuff.

So in the meantime, touch up your knowledge pool with some intense hardcore marathoning (be sure not to leave your uni work hanging!) and we’ll see you then, where winner(s) take all! Prizes, drinks, pizza, good company, five/ten dollar entry, what’s not to like?

Get hype.

When: 5th March 2015
Time: 5pm – 9pm
Where: The Underground, UTS
Cost: $5 members / $10 non-members

O-day is next week!

2014 Anime in Review

December 31, 2014, by , posted in Review

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all our members! What a great year has it been, so much stuff was accomplished, so many new anime were watched (right?). If by chance you didn’t have time to attend our screenings where we watched a bunch of shows form the past few seasons, and were to busy with exams, then here is a video reviewing the anime you might have missed in the passed year.

Gigguk is a great anime reviewer and comes out with these anime in review posts yearly. Check him out:

Screenings in 2014

November 25, 2014, by , posted in Blog

Yush! This post is long overdue~

Yup, it’s me Frank– your friendly neighbourhood screenings director <3 and this is my post about this year’s screenings (as well as plans for next year!).

First of all – thank you to all of you that came to screenings this year! It was wonderful seeing you, even if it was only for a single screening~ I’ve met some wonderful people and even made some new friends from those that have turned up to screenings. If people didn’t come to screenings, well, I’d probably be a very sad screenings director~ So I’m glad lots of you did (even during assessment periods!). What I’ve personally enjoyed the most about my first year as screenings director is when I show an anime and someone says “Oh hey, that looks good! I’ll probably watch it” and I feel all warm and fuzzy inside~ <3

But now down to the facts – How did I run screenings this year? Well, for those that didn’t come – this is how it went:

Monday (First semester)/Tuesday (Second Semester) screening – The original plan was to bring in a bunch of anime and have the people there decide, but then everyone was really non-committal about choices – so it was changed to putting a WHOLE LOT of anime into a playlist and setting it to shuffle~ Later on when the new season started, we watched the most recent episode of a new season of anime (First Stardust Crusaders, Zankyou no Terror, then Unlimited Blade Works), then let the playlist shuffle from there.

Friday screenings – Friday screenings were pretty constant. At (almost) every screening I passed around a suggestions sheet which people could fill in. Then I would base Friday’s screening off of the suggestions! Obviously I was limited to what anime I had available, and sometimes people would suggest things that I didn’t feel comfortable screening – so not everything suggested was shown. Oh, and please, no more Boku no Pico suggestions. They’re not funny anymore. :P

Above all, I tried my best to try and show a whole lot of stuff so that there was something there for everybody. From Mecha to Yaoi, from action to romance, from old to new, from Shaft to moe. Not saying that my own personal tastes didn’t affect screenings – I’m sure the amount of Gintama shown made that obvious! :D

Anime 2014

Either way, as of writing I’m planning to run 2015’s screenings in a similar way – Monday screenings having the same ‘follow a new anime, do the shuffle’, and Friday being based off of your suggestions. If anything is to change, it’ll probably be that I’ll bring food in every now and again (though if we leave a mess in any of the rooms, that’ll stop very very quickly). But hey, I’m not a screenings director for myself, but for club members, so if you have any suggestions feel free to pass them my way and I’ll take them into consideration!

Whelp, first post on the new website complete, probably of many more to come~ I’ll see you all next year! じゃぁね~
