Music Monday – Asian Kung-fu Generation

January 25, 2016, by , posted in Music

The new season started and one of the best shows is time around is called Boku Dake ga Inai Machi, or Erased in English. But I am here to talk about music, more specifically the OP of this great show. Its called Re:Re: by Asian Kung-Fu Generation and I think it fits this shows theme perfectly. Why? Well the melody, the lyrics are a given, but in this case its also the reason behind choosing a song by AKG from 2005. The story of Erased is set in 2006 and that is exactly the time when Asian Kung-Fu Generation was super popular, so it fits right?

Music Monday – Yukarin’s Picks

January 18, 2016, by , posted in Music

What I love about Anisongs is that there is so much variety as to the music’s style, instruments and genre which all perfectly capture the anime’s themes and characters. Here are the top two of my personal favourite (and under-appreciated) Anisongs. Enjoy!

“Fly Away” by TeddyLoid, from Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

There are lots of people who have watched or heard of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, but oddly enough, this song hardly appears for a few seconds throughout all the episodes. I love the techno-electronica vibes it brings and it really juices me up when I need that energy kick to write those final essays during my all-nighters. Also a fun fact: this song was written by TeddyLoid, who also made the internet-breaking songs “ME!ME!ME!” and “GIRL”, which you are probably familiar with.

“Sky’s the Limit” by Shihoko Hirata; Lotus Juice, from Persona 4

This is one of my favourite chillax songs. It’s got a catchy beat, smooth jazz-style piano riff and an awesome female rapper. Personally I really enjoy all the music from the Persona series, but the mellow, simplistic edge to this piece makes it stand out a lot for me.

Well that’s it folks, hope you liked it!

Music Monday – Introduction to Utaite

January 10, 2016, by , posted in Music

I’m going to take a stab in the dark that most of you have heard of Vocaloids. Personally, my favourite part of Vocaloid culture is the originality and creativity they allow producers. Unfortunately, sometimes, I’m not such a fan of the distinctive “robo-crooning” sound. That’s where Utaite come in! Utaite are humans that cover Vocaloid songs (mostly, although they do also cover other songs), meaning we have all the creativity of a Vocaloid song with the oftentimes more pleasant sound of a human singer. We’ll be looking at two of my personal favourite covers today – first up, papiyon’s E? Ah, Sou. as covered by Dasoku and 【Ren】.
