It’s AGM time

August 28, 2012, by , posted in Events

OPPA GANGNAM STYLE~

So, that time is looming closer…

To those that don’t know, AGM is that time where we assemble together and vote for who we want to organise and run our club.

It’s one of the most important events of the year and we need as many members to attend as possible.

AGM will be held on Saturday, September 29th, which is the end of VC week. We’ve taken into account that there are a few members that want to go to Animania, so we pushed it back a week.

There will be free (yes, free) pizza and ice cream on the day (don’t think we don’t know what you’re thinking).

~ TL;DR ~
Time: 11am – 5pm
Date: Saturday, September 29th
Location: CB02.07.008

Let us know you’re coming through our Facebook event!

See you then! :D

Music Monday: My ClariS can’t be this cute!

August 27, 2012, by , posted in Music

Hello and welcome to the first thrilling episode of Music Monday with your host Vadim.

If you have you seen Ore Imo, Madoka Magika or Nisemonogatari you should be familiar with the group ClariS.

ClariS is a Japanese pop music duo, consisting of high school girls Clara and Alice. The duo was formed in 2009 when the girls did a cover of the Vocaloid song Step to You. ClariS became popular because they were uploading their songs to the Japanese video sharing website Niko Niko Douga.

After being signed by the Japanese record label SME Records, ClariS released their first major debut single Irony – The opening theme for Ore Imo. It was so successful that The Good Smile Company even released Nendoroid versions of Clara and Alice.

Shortly after (February 2011) ClariS released their second hit single Connect which was used as the opening theme for Madoka Magika. Connect was awarded the Gold Disc for exceeding 100,000 copies shipped within a year.

Their forth single Naisho no Hanashi which was composed by Ryo of Supercell was used in 2012 as the ending theme for Nisemonogatari.

The latest piece from ClariS is the Moyashimon Returns opening theme: Wake up. Also a new single called Luminous will be released October 10th and will be the used as the theme song for the upcoming Madoka Magika movie.

P.S. I’m going to sing all of these songs when we go to Karaoke next <3

Music Monday: Noblesse Oblige

The majority of you would recognize Supercell at first insistence. You know about all the popular Japanese anime singers and could probably rattle off the names of Seriyu. You may even be into Jpop and Kpop and what not.

I’m not. I don’t even pay attention to anime theme songs and endings. Let us all sip tea in the ensuring awkwardness.

If you attended Monday screenings in the Autumn 2012 semester, you might recognize this song. It’s a rare birdy – an actual western song used as an anime theme song.

It’s ‘Falling Down’ by Oasis and it was used as the theme song for ‘Eden of the East’.

Music Monday: Rhapsodies and Blues

August 13, 2012, by , posted in Music

Classical music is often used in soundtracks. Certain songs have been engraved into the public consciousness to the extent that we are at least aware of their presence and recognize the song, even if we don’t quite know what the names are. I could take a break from anime and talk about animation. If you were fed on Disney, MGM and Warner Bros animation, then classical music has been spoon fed into you.

Let’s talk about a song that has been used in both anime and animation, but not to the point of instant recognition.

Let’s talk about Rhapsody in Blue.
