Music Monday – Samurai 7
Samurai 7 is one of those few anime series that I really, really liked but have not been able to finish watching, mostly due to the lack of episodes in my laptop (or DVDs in my DVD collection… or money in my wallet with which to buy said DVDs.)
You may be asking, ‘how can you like an anime that you haven’t watched’? Well, I have seen some episodes, at least the first three, when they were available on Youtube back in 2006-07. And even if I had not, I can still like it if I know the plot, either by spoiling yourself… or, you know, that little, almost insignificant fact that it’s based on one of the greatest and most influential films ever made.
Then, there’s the music. I can’t say I remember much of the soundtrack, but I certainly remember the opening. “Unlimited” by Nanase Aikawa is one song that I will (most probably) never forget. More due to the memories connected to the song than the song itself, but I still love “Unlimited” despite the memories, which I believe is saying something.
If you’re into Samurai and swords and mecha with a pretty cool opening, then you should check out Samurai 7. If you’re not, then you should still check it out (and unlike me, actually finish it). And while you’re at it, do check Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa.
