Music Monday

Thought I’d carry on the shounen theme for another week. Shounen anime, in my opinion, is the token genre of the whole medium. Its through shounen anime that the majority of anime fans become anime fans. Everyone has “their” series, like a Dragonball Z or a Naruto or a One Piece or a Bleach, that one series that they were hopelessly devoted to. For me though, I have many of those series. I’m almost a connoisseur of shounen anime/manga. I know a stupid amount of info about Rurouni Kenshin, Naruto, Bleach and a bunch of others that are slightly more obscure, like Eyeshield 21.

So anyway, this week’s Music Monday comes from Bleach. Or more specifically, the BEST Bleach opening, hands down.

Music Monday

Its been a while since I’ve done one of these, hasn’t it?

Looking back over the last few weeks, I see some eclectic musical fun, a little bit of cutesy, a sprinkling of piano pieces and a ton of jazz (why can mad never decide on ONE song?). And I think, what’s missing?

Some f****** rock. Adrenaline pumping, blood flowing, heart pounding music that makes you want to get up and shout out random Japanese phrases like “DATTEBAYO!” while beating down some baddies.

Music Monday

A friend recently recommended Stein’s Gate to me, and I daresay I’ve been immensely enjoying it so far. It’s about a group of uni students who somehow manage to turn a microwave into a remote-controlled time travelling device, with which they have fun adventures and shenanigans, whereupon they also then get chased around by a secret government research agency who are doing the similar things but are (probably) just very jelly of being outsmarted by a bunch of kids and want to do nasty, harmful things to said kids.

The OP is a bit of light, eclectic musical fun featuring the profilic Kanako Itou to a bouncy electro-pop soundtrack. In my humble opinion, it’s ultimately not that remarkable as it sounds too much like most other anime OPs I’ve listened to.

Music Monday – Upbeat

August 8, 2011, by , posted in Music

I thought it would be nice to set an optimistic mood to the beginning of the semester by posting some poppy upbeat songs.

The first song comes from an album called daisy strategy by miskyworks. It was only some time after I first listened to the album that I found out that the songs were in fact Touhou arranges. The songs are covered in an interesting, unique fashion. Although the album is quite short, each track is done in a separate style, which are all pleasant to listen to.

Next is a vocaloid song with a hook that got me addicted within moments, Hello Strobe by powapowaP. I am fond of musicians who blend traditional and modern, and I get a kick out of that “glitchy” effect. Also it happens to be easy enough for me to sing at K!

Many of you may have heard the OP to last season’s Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, but probably missed out on the awesome other track from the OP single. Done in a similar style to the OP, but now with cute onomatopoeia!
