Music Monday

As we finally near the end of a tumultuous year, with the onset of a new, fresh start with 2011, it is a time for reflection and celebration. Some of us turn inward, looking back at all the good and bad things that have come to pass, but also looking forward with excitement and trepidation at the glorious future to come. Well, at the very least, I know that I am. So here’s some music that I felt was suitable enough to accompany and compliment such a contemplative mood.

“Even when trapped by karma’s cycle, the dreams we left behind will open the door! Even if the Universe? stands in our way, our seething blood will determine what will be! We will break through Time and Space! And defy all who would stop us to grab hold of our path!” – Nia, Yoko, Leeron, Viral and Simon

Peace out, everyone, and have a Happy New Year!

Music Monday

Merry Christmas everyone!

This week’s Music Monday is a little shorter (and a little later) than usual, but you shouldn’t be on the internet reading this anyway. You should be out there doing your last minute shopping or hanging out with cool people. And your family. Because families are never cool.

Love it or hate it, K-On! was one of the biggest anime this year (and last year). Being a sucker for music anime, I naturally loved K-On! and this song, My Love is a Stapler, was perhaps my favourite of all the HTT songs, followed closely by Fude Pen (no fu fu!). The song pretty much has everything, Mio/Yui vocals, a cool guitar riff, some nice keyboards and great drumming. What makes the song even more cool was the first scene in K-On! season 2, where Yui just sits down and rocks out on her guitar.

Anyway, happy holidays everyone!

Music Monday

Exams are over and summer has reared its hot head just in time for the holidays. So for Music Monday, why not go for a bit a summer tune?

Driver’s High is one of L’Arc~En~Ciel’s best songs and it was used as one of the openings for Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO). From Ken’s amazing guitar, Tetsu’s wandering bass, Yuki’s frantic drumming, Hyde’s glorious vocals and even the video clip capture the fun and feelings of what summer is about.

The wind blowing through your hair, the sun blazing in your eyes and burning your body as you run wild, that’s what summer is. Summer is about the freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Blame the heat if you want to, but its the best time to start acting whacky and crazy.

Summer is about spending time with friends and getting up to hijinks and shenanigans, kinda like the Laruku boys in the MV. Don’t get stuck in the otaku mode of staying home all the time. Go do something different. Go do something fun. And more importantly, go do it with some friends.

Clash! Into the rolling morning! Flash! I’m in the coolest driver’s high!

As other people have said before, choosing a song for Music Monday is a real pain, not to mention writing this pile of crap you are reading.
Anywho, less complaining for now.
When it comes to music, I like music which tells a story. So, for this weeks Music Monday, I have chosen the song Stardust by the music group Sound Horizon.

Home Thai

December 5, 2010, by , posted in Out and About

After one of our staple karaoke events, we decided to continue to expand our places of food consumption to include a restaurant on Sussex St called Home Thai. One of our members had walked past the restaurant many times before, and every time there was a queue of people outside. Using our powers of deduction, we thought that that could mean that this restaurant was pretty good.
